The U.S. Department of Labor will provide $1 million in assistance for an International Labor Organization program, which will contribute to improvements in the government of Georgia’s ability to enforce labor legislation. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry announced the program at a plenary meeting of the U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission, which he co-chaired with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. Specifically, the program will assist Georgia with further changes to its labor law, efforts to harmonize labor law with other legislation, and the development of implementing regulations to achieve compliance with international labor standards. The program will also continue assisting the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Affairs to improve its labor administrative capacities; and establish a labor inspectorate and mediation service that meets international labor standards. This funding is in addition to a pre-existing $2 million U.S. contribution.
